Organization's mandate

To ensure the future of elk and other wildlife

We are a national, not-for profit conservation group.


Areas (geographic) of particular focus

Areas of traditional range for elk


Thematic or ecological areas of focus

Our thematic and ecological area of focus is critical wildlife habitat, including: winter calving grounds, movement corridors, and areas of traditional range. Our focus is elk and other species.


Donation or sales

The Wild Elk Federation does not currently hold any conservation easements, however they would be willing to accept donations of a conservation easements.


Compensation

Compensation would be negotiated with the landowner.


Minimum parcel size

Associated programs

The Wild Elk Federation is interested in developing associated programming, particularly programming that involves volunteers.


Relationship with landowners

The Wild Elk Federation is open to speaking with landowners who are considering placing a conservation easement on their land, recognizing that all discussions don't lead to an acquisition.


Support for landowners

This will be negotiated with the landowner.


Stewardship activities

WHO: Who does the monitoring would depend on the location of the land under the conservation easement, however the Wild Elk Federation would coordinate the monitoring activities.

HOW OFTEN: Monitoring would happen on an annual basis.

INFORMATION PROVIDED: A conversation or some sort of dialogue with the landowner would take place.


Endowment fund

An endowment fund would be established. Landowners who are donating a conservation easement may be asked for a contribution to an endowment fund.


Grazing

Grazing could be allowed, but there would be certain limitations in terms of numbers. This would be determined based on discussion with the landowner.


Public access on conservation easement lands

This would be negotiated with the landowner. The Wild Elk Federation recognizes that hunting is not necessarily a pre-requisite when setting aside conservation lands.


Defense fund

Wild Elk Federation is considering setting up a defense fund.
