The Environmental Law Centre (ELC) has been a charitable organization in Alberta since 1982. ELC provides lawyer consultation, lawyer referrals, community presentations, print and online publications, and an extensive website. Their research, education and public participation programs provide information needed for citizens to get involved in protecting our environment. They provide other environmental organizations with the support needed to push for change in various areas of concern. And also provide decision-makers with information they need to develop sound law and policy.

Staff lawyers are experts on a broad range of environmental and natural resource law topics. In particular ELC staff have participated on land trust and land trust alliance boards as well as carried out research on the technical aspects of conservation easement and the practical application of them.
