Beaver County works under the direction of council policy that looks at sustainable development. Areas of environmental significance are important and taken into account at the time of subdivision.

Beaver County has a number of conservation initiatives including a detailed wetland inventory and a detailed farmland analysis. Beaver County is an active member of the Beaver Hills Initiative.


Relationship with landowners

Beaver County has a good relationship with landowners. Landowners police conservation easements and in every case the land has not changed hands.


Support for landowners

Beaver County provides support to landowners up front. They pay for the cost of the paperwork necessary to register a conservation easement and to organize the legalities of the agreement.

Grazing

Grazing is allowed if it is requested by the landowner and included as one of the exclusive and allowable uses within the conservation easement.


Public access on conservation easement lands

Public access is not allowed unless it is specified in the conservation easement agreement. Conservation easements held by Beaver County are really focused on restricting development more than anything else.


Defense fund

Beaver County has a defense fund, but it is not specific to conservation easements.


Trigger for a conservation easement

A conservation easement is triggered when a landowner requests one, or if Beaver Country sees a subdivision/development that would be suited by a conservation easement.
